History: Leanne Ungar
began her studio experience working at Sound Ideas in New York.
Here she assisted on sessions with James Brown, Leonard Cohen, The
Brecker Brothers and Manhattan Transfer. After working at Le Studio,
Canada, in 1975, Leanne returned to New York and joined the staff
at A&R Recording, working on sessions with Cat Stevens, Loudon
Wainwright and Janis Ian.
Ungar’s
independent recording career began when she worked with the avant-garde
artist, Laurie Anderson on Big Science, Mister Heartbreak and a
concert film, Home of the Brave. Her client list grew to include
Temptations, Fishbone, Holly Cole, Joe Henderson, Adam Cohen, Guster,
Joy Askew, Carlene Carter, Willie Nelson, Big Mountain, 3T, Billy
Joel, Luther Vandross, Natalie Cole, Vonda Shepard, Aaron Neville,
Tom Jones, Leata Galloway, David Van Tieghem, The Paul Winter Consort,
Peter Criss, The Roches, Kate and Anna McGarrigle. She has worked on various film scores with Mason Daring (Matewan,
Passion Fish) and Cliff Martinez (Pump Up the Volume, Kafka, The
Underneath, The Limey), to name a few.
In
1984, Ungar started working again with Leonard Cohen on Various
Positions, then I'm Your Man in 1987, The Future in 1993, and Cohen
Live in 1994.
Current Credits: : The new live album, Field Commander Cohen, is produced
by Ungar. Cohen's latest effort, Ten New Songs, is due out in October,
