Gatos Trail Recording

A Joshua Tree Music Studio Retreat

Gatos Trail Recording has the reputation of having the best sounding drum room in the desert. The Studio is named after the tiny dirt road that passes behind the studio, located in the picturesque Joshua Tree.  The studio is built inside a rustic 1,200 square foot barn.  "Gatos Trail Recording Studio was meticulously crafted over two years of thoughtful acoustic architecture and custom wood working," says drummer, and studio owner Dan Joeright. The walls are all adorned with artistically appointed, repurposed barn wood and the 13’ high ceilings are outlined by massive wooden beams. "The live room, iso booths and control room have all been acoustically treated to give superior sonic results (especially for drums)," adds Joeright. The live room back wall can be transformed from wood to metal or to a theatre curtain giving a variety of responses to fit your taste.

As a drummer, Dan has worked with a variety of notable artists including Terry Hall, Sasquatch, Jim White and El Vez and was a member of the Moog driven rock band The Rentals fronted by ex-Weezer bassist Matt Sharp. In 2016 Dan founded the musical collective Earth Moon Earth taking on the rolls of producer, drummer and principle writer. Earth Moon Earth features his friends from such bands as Morcheeba, Psychedelic Furs, Broken Bells, Swans, The Freeks and others. On the technical side Dan has worked with the Mekons, SZA, Earthless and Nebula to name a few.

Along with the new ProTools and Avid gear, the studio offers vintage favorites to include Neve 1073 MIC PreAMPs, Urie Universal Audio LA3A Compressor - 1970’s vintage, Studer A827 24 Track 2" Tape Machine (reserve 2" tapes ahead of time).  For full list of mics, speakers and music instruments (including a nice variety of drums) check out Gatos Trail's  Gear List here!

“I have such a huge respect for artists of all stripes - from independent bands to major label artists. I love the creative process and I love helping others realize their vision. I feel blessed to work with the amazing folks who pass through Gatos Trail,” says Joeright.
